Warmer temperatures in forecast for Kansas City this weekend
The calendar may say late February, but temperatures this weekend will be more like mid-April in Kansas City as highs are expected to climb into the mid-60s.
By contrast, temperatures this time of year in Kansas City typically are in the upper 40s.
But before the spring-like weather arrives, Kansas City will need to shed itself of the chills of winter.
“Later on today (Wednesday), the clouds are going to be decreasing and we are going to end up somewhere around 40 degrees — upper 30s to low 40s on the thermometer,” said FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star. “It’s going to feel a little bit colder though because of the winds in play.”
BEHIND THE STORY
MOREHow we did this story
The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.
Areas east of the immediate Kansas City metro will see any remaining snowfall come to an end Wednesday morning.
“This will be quickly moving out and we will stay clear overnight and cold,” Ritter said.
A quick-moving system may zip through the Kansas City area Thursday, producing a few sprinkles, she said.
“Otherwise, it is going to be pretty quiet heading into the second half of the week and warmer,” Ritter said. “Eventually, we are going to be taking about mid, possibly upper 60s by Sunday.”
