Cold rain moves into Kansas City possibly by evening commute; snow falls overnight
A very cold rain is expected to move into the Kansas City area Tuesday afternoon as chance for precipitation increases in the metro in by the evening rush hour, said FOX4 meteorologist Michelle Bogowith.
“Then we will start to transition as temperatures cool on the back side of this system to a wintry mix, finishing as some light snow,” said Bogowith, who provides weather updates to The Star. “The heaviest concentration of snow will be focused on the Missouri side as this moves out.”
BEHIND THE STORY
MOREHow we did this story
The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.
A winter weather advisory kicks off later Tuesday afternoon for counties just east of the Kansas City metro.
“It’s likely we will only pick up maybe a light dusting up to one inch,” Bogowith said. “That one inch most likely will be on the Missouri side.”
Areas just to the east of the metro could see between 2 and 3 inches of snow, she said.
Temperatures will be cold Wednesday, with the high hovering around freezing. A warming trend begins late in the week, with highs in the 40s on Thursday and Friday, 50s on Saturday and 60 degrees on Sunday — the start of meteorological spring.
