Light snow likely as Kansas City’s next winter storm passes through region
A light coating of snow is possible for some in the Kansas City area as the next winter storm passes to the west of the metro overnight Wednesday., said FOX4 meteorologist Michelle Bogowith.
“For the day today, our temperatures are much closer to average as we are going to see highs in the lower 40s,” said Bogowith, who provides weather updates to The Star. “ Factor in those strong northerly winds today, it’s going to feel more like the 30s as you step outside.”
Typically this time of year, afternoon highs climb into the mid-40s, according to data from the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill.
And while the snow won’t be much of a threat, people will want to dress warm the next couple of days because temperatures are expected to drop, Bogowith advised.
“Middle 30s for Wednesday with a mix of cloud and sunshine,” she said.
The next storm system dives just to the west of Kansas city overnight Wednesday, moving to the south and southeast, she said. The system could clip some of the Kansas City metro area, leaving behind some light snow by Thursday morning.
BEHIND THE STORY
MOREHow we did this story
The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.
A closer look at forecast
While there may be some breaks in the clouds Wednesday, there will be more cover during in the afternoon, she said.
“And then comes the disturbance,” she said. “It is going to be encountering a lot of dry air though, as that moves closer and closer to the metro area — mostly impacting those of you on the Kansas side.”
There could be a light coating or dusting of snow for some of those in the Kansas City area. Cold air will settle in behind the disturbance with highs reaching only near 30 degrees, she said.
“The good news: We rebound into the upcoming weekend — 40s and 50s are back with chances for rain on Sunday,”
