‘A lot colder’ in Kansas City after seeing highs climb into the 60s over the holiday
With spring just weeks away, Kansas City’s roller-coaster ride of warm and cold temperatures will continue this week as they drop from the 60s on Monday to below normal through most of the work week, according to FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.
“It’s going to be a lot colder for your Tuesday forecast,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star. “We’re expecting partly cloudy skies later today and temperatures 20 to 25 degrees colder, topping out closer to 40 versus the 60s we saw yesterday.”
That’s a big change from the Presidents Day holiday, when temperatures climbed to 64 degrees at Kansas City International Airport Monday afternoon.
The high was shy of the 74-degree-record for that date set in 2011, but it was well above the normal temperature of 44 degrees for this time of year in Kansas City, according to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill.
BEHIND THE STORY
MOREHow we did this story
The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.
“Weather-wise, it’s going to be a quiet day (Tuesday) with no nuisance weather expected actually for the next four days,” Ritter said. “And your forecast for the next four days calls for some colder conditions with temperatures in the upper 20s to low 30s for Wednesday and Thursday.”
The National Weather Service said it was time to get the coats and mittens back out. Wind chills will fall into the single digits Wednesday night into Thursday morning. The cold of winter is not ready to give up.
“And then we will get some sunshine and be back into the 40s for the end of the week,” Ritter said.
