Snow could hamper Wednesday commute, but temperatures will warm up for Super Bowl
Snow could slow Wednesday morning commute times, though the roads should still be manageable, according to FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.
The winter weather advisory should expire by noon for the Kansas City area, said Ritter, who provides weather updates for The Star.
According to the National Weather Service, nearly 14 inches of snow have fallen in Kansas City so far since the fall — 3 1/2 inches above normal.
At least one school district, Lee’s Summit, is under a delayed start.
The weather service said drivers should allow for extra braking distance and extra time on their drive Wednesday morning.
“(The) drive in may be a little tricky,” Ritter said. “As the snow exits mid-morning, really by 8 or 9 o’clock, we should be doing OK. And then after that we settle into a chilly finish to the week.”
BEHIND THE STORY
MOREHow we did this story
The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.
Temperatures will stay in the mid-30s for the rest of the week. On Saturday, temperatures jump up to a high of 47. By Sunday, Kansas City could see a high of 66 degrees.
“Super Bowl Sunday we’ll be closer to Miami weather,” Ritter said.
