Friday morning commute in Kansas City metro will be a ‘messy’ one
Friday morning’s commute will be slick but road conditions should improve by lunch, according to FOX4 meteorologist Michelle Bogowith.
Most roads are mostly or partially covered which created slick spots, said Bogowith, who provides weather updates for The Star.
“Road conditions (are) less than ideal,” Bogowith said. “The morning commute is going to be a messy one.”
Bogowith expects to see improvements in the road conditions around noon.
BEHIND THE STORY
MOREHow we did this story
The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.
However, for those closer to mid-Missouri, she said snow will continue to fall. Areas including Carrollton and Sedalia will likely receive the most. According to the National Weather Service, snow will end in the northeast and central parts of Missouri close to sunset.
According to the weather service, 2 to 3 inches of snow has already fallen across the metro. Kansas City could see up to another inch.
Several school districts around the area have closed as well, including Kansas City Public Schools and Lee’s Summit.
This is the third Friday in a row where weather conditions made for slick roads.
Last week, a Delta Air Lines plane slid off a taxiway at Kansas City International Airport before it closed for several hours for slick conditions. The week before, the airport reported numerous flight cancellations and delays after freezing rain made it difficult for airplanes to be deiced.
But there was still good news from Friday’s forecast, according to the weather service: “You can’t ask for better snowman-making snow.”
