‘Be prepared’: Freezing rain, sleet and snow in Wednesday morning forecast for KC area
FOX4 meteorologist Garry Frank says “be prepared for some ups and downs” as a winter storm system moves through the Kansas City area over the next three days.
It is supposed to start off early Wednesday morning with some light freezing rain or light sleet, Frank said in a weather update to The Star. The rain is then expected to change over to heavy, wet snow later in the morning. The temperature is expected to reach a high of 34 on Wednesday.
“It won’t snow like that all day, but this system is going to be with us for a couple of days,” Frank said.
The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill has issued a winter weather advisory for midnight to noon Wednesday as this mix of wintry precipitation may cause roads to become slippery.
Drivers can check traffic and the conditions of highways and interstates using online maps provided by Kansas City Scout, the Missouri Department of Transportation or the Kansas Department of Transportation.
Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches and a light glaze of ice are possible, the weather service said.
The storm is then supposed to bring some rain on Thursday, but Frank said it’s expected to transition over to more snow.
