KC area under winter weather advisory ahead of latest round of snow, freezing rain

The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill has issued a winter weather advisory ahead of a three-day winter storm that is expected to start out Wednesday in the Kansas City area with a mix of snow and freezing rain.

The advisory will be in effect from midnight to noon Wednesday, and covers parts of east-central and northeast Kansas as well as northwest and west-central Missouri, including Kansas City.

Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches and a light glaze of ice are possible, the weather service said.

“Plan on slippery road conditions,” the advisory states. “The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.”

Drivers can check traffic and the conditions of highways and interstates using online maps provided by Kansas City Scout, the Missouri Department of Transportation or the Kansas Department of Transportation.
