Layer up: Sunday wind chill values will likely be in the single digits in Kansas City

The colder weather has set in here in the Kansas City area and will continue this weekend as well as early next week, when the region may see a brief period of light snow, according to FOX4 meteorologist Garry Frank.

Wind chill values will likely be in the single digits for most of Sunday and Monday. The National Weather Service is reminding people to dress in layers and wear gloves, a hat and boots to protect yourself from the bitter cold.

On Sunday, skies will be sunny and the temperature will reach a high of 20, but it will feel like it will be between 5 and 10 degrees throughout the day, Frank said in a weather update to The Star. Winds are expected to be 10 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph, according to the weather service.

There is a chance of light snow Monday afternoon in the region, though it may not affect everyone, Frank said. Little to no snow accumulations are expected. The high temperature is supposed to be 18 degrees.

Another storm may be arriving later in the week.

“The tail end of the next week is going to be a little bit more messy but warmer,” Frank said. “I think mostly the way this looks right now is rain that may mix in with flakes of snow depending on the timing. This will change, but it is going to improve. Before that, much colder air. That’s our biggest focus here in the short term.”
