‘Sunny but cold’ for AFC Championship game Sunday, so bundle up Chiefs fans

Low temperatures and wind will make for a cold but dry day at Arrowhead Stadium for fans heading to the AFC Championship game on Sunday.

“It’s a good idea to bundle up,” said FOX4 meteorologist Alex Countee in a weather update for the Star.

Countee is expecting temperatures Saturday to stay below 30 degrees, rising to 29 degrees around 4 p.m. and dropping again after sunset. Throughout the day, he said, the Kansas City area will experience 20 to 30 mile per hour northwest winds.

“(We’re) dealing with a very similar situation for the game tomorrow at Arrowhead, still sunny but cold,” Countee said.

Temperatures are expected to be even colder Sunday than Saturday with highs in the low 20s.

The windchill, Countee said, will make the temperature feel like 5 degrees as fans tailgate before the game. Temperatures will rise a bit, making it feel like 10 degrees at kickoff, he said.

The weather will begin to feel warmer during the second half of the week, Countee said.

With the warmer weather, however, will come another chance for rain and snow on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
