Winter storm watch issued for KC area: ‘Plan on slippery road conditions’ Friday, NWS says

The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill has issued a winter storm watch ahead of a system that may drop a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain, which would likely impact commuters Friday morning in the Kansas City area.

The watch is set to be in effect from late Thursday night to Friday afternoon. It covers parts of east-central and northeast Kansas and northwest and west-central Missouri, including the entire Kansas City area.

According to the weather service, this winter storm could bring up to 2 inches of snow and ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch.

“Plan on slippery road conditions,” it said. “The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.”

By early Friday afternoon, the wintry mix of precipitation is expected to change over to rain.
