Snow and cold weather coming to Kansas City this week after days of warm temps
Enjoy the next few days of unseasonably warm temperatures, because colder air is coming along with the likelihood of snow at the end of the week, according to FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.
“Later on today we are expecting our highs to climb into the lower 50s — that’s going to feel really nice as we head through the afternoon,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star.
Temperatures are expected to reach the 50s again Wednesday and Thursday. The average high for this time of year is the upper 30s in Kansas City, according to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill.
“As we look ahead to the end of the week and the weekend, we are going to be talking about the return of rain on Thursday and the potential is still there for some wintry weather Friday into Saturday,” Ritter said.
BEHIND THE STORY
MOREHow we did this story
The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.
Rain showers, with the possibility of some thunderstorms, are expected to become more widespread throughout the day Thursday, she said. Rain will also be possible Friday, which is expected to switch over to a wintry mix Friday night. Snow is likely overnight Friday into Saturday morning, she said.
A second wave could produce more snow, just to the south and east of the metro area on Saturday evening.
“No matter what, it’s going to get colder for the end of the week with highs dropping into the 30s,” Ritter said. “And we are going to stay, maybe with a little fresh snow on the ground, a little bit cooler headed into Sunday.”
