Cooler temperatures, and possibly snow, coming to Kansas City ahead of weekend

After the temperature climbed to near 60 degrees to start the new year, it will be a tad bit cooler in Kansas City Thursday. But highs remain above normal for this time of year, according to FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.

“It’s going to be a little bit cooler than yesterday, but still pretty comfortable,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star. “We will see our afternoon highs topping out in the upper 40s to low 50s and we are expecting more clouds as we go through the day.”

The average high for this time of year is in the upper 30s.

How we did this story

The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.

Scattered rain also could move into the Kansas City area Thursday, but the better chances for rain will be south and east of the immediate metro area.

“Tomorrow, as we see some cooler air arriving, we may see some of that rain transition over into a little bit of pockets of snow,” Ritter said. “But I”m not worried about accumulations. It’s just going to signal some cooler weather arriving just in time for the weekend.”

Temperatures are expected to return to what’s typical for this time of year, with highs climbing to only the low 40s on Friday and Saturday.

Warmer temperatures return on Sunday, with the high expected to be around 50 degrees.
