Warmer temps expected as Kansas City heads into first days of winter
With temperatures forecast in the 50s this weekend, some in the Kansas City area might double check their calendars to make sure that Saturday is the first official day of winter.
“The warming trend has begun here in Kansas City as temperatures today will be climbing above average,” said FOX4 meteorologist Michelle Bogowith, who provides weather updates to The Star.
The highs will climb into the middle 40s on Thursday and Friday. The average high for this time of year in Kansas City is in the upper 30s.
“For the first day of winter on Saturday, it’s not going to feel much like winter as temperatures will be climbing into the upper 40s to near 50 degrees,” she said. “If you don’t hit 50 on Saturday, because some of you could, I think there will multiple chances as we close off the weekend and kick things off early next week.”

The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.
The week of Christmas could see highs climb to the middle 50s.
“Your local travel plans, even your regional travel plans, are looking great early next week,” Bogowith said.
On Christmas Day, clouds move into the area, which will limit highs to the lower 50s, she said. There is a chance for rain, which could make this Christmas wet rather than white.
The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill said in a tweet that mimics the Star Wars’ character Yoda that the warmer temperatures will be good to melt the snow from recent storms.
