Winter storm threatens to bring snow, cold to Kansas City area at end of weekend
Update: A new weather forecast Wednesday provides more details about when to expect snow on Sunday. That story is posted here.
The Kansas City area will have a little warmer weather before the next dose of winter conditions moves through this weekend.
With ample sunshine in the forecast Wednesday, afternoon highs will return to the low 40s, according to FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star. That’s typical for this time of year in Kansas City.
“Looking ahead to Sunday, though, that’s going to be our next day where we are going to see more activity on radar,” Ritter said. “There is likely going to be a central plains snowstorm that some of us will have to deal with.”
The snow is expected to start falling Sunday. But through kickoff of the Kansas City Chiefs versus Denver Broncos football game at Arrowhead Stadium, the weather in Kansas City will be dry, Ritter said.
“Through the evening hours though, that will likely change, especially as we go Sunday night into Monday morning,” she said. “It is very likely we will have snow Monday morning to wake up to here in Kansas City.”
It is also possible that the Kansas City area will be dealing with highs in the 30s beginning Saturday and continuing to at least Tuesday. That comes after highs climb into the 50s on Thursday and Friday.
BEHIND THE STORY
MOREHow we did this story
The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.
The National Weather Service said that the snow that is possible Sunday night into Monday could have minor impacts on the Monday morning commute.
