Temperatures go in the ‘wrong direction’ as colder air pushes into Kansas City area

Don’t let the morning temperatures fool you, Kansas City. This is as warm as it’s going to get Monday.

“Later on today we are going to be going in the exact wrong direction from a temperature standpoint,” said FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.

It’s going to get colder.

“We will start this morning in the 40s. Drop to about 38, if not colder at lunch,” she said. “By the time you go home this afternoon and this evening, it will likely be around 30 degrees or perhaps in the upper 20s for your air temperature.”

In addition to the falling temperatures, there may be some drizzle or wintry mix to contend with later Monday morning and early afternoon, she said.

Once the sun goes down, temperatures will continue to fall into the 20s.

“And it’s only going to get colder,” she said. “By the time we wake up tomorrow morning, we will be at 18 degrees.”

Temperatures will rise again in the next several days, reaching slightly above normal by the end of the week. The average high for this time of year is the low 40s.

How we did this story

The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.

Because of the anticipated drop in temperatures, the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill advised on Twitter that people not leave the house Monday morning without some layers.

“It is only going to get colder as the day goes on,” the weather service said. “It is also going to be windy, making it feel 10 to 15 degrees colder.”
