Semi crash shuts down westbound I-70 in Blue Springs during morning rush
A crash involving a semitractor-trailer shortly before the morning commute has shut down westbound Interstate 70 in Blue Springs, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred about 5 a.m. at I-70 and Adams Dairy Parkway. No one was injured in the crash, the highway patrol said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
The force of the crash pushed a concrete barrier from a construction zone in the area into the eastbound lanes, leading to the closure of the left lane of eastbound I-70, the highway patrol said. The highway patrol is currently working with the Missouri Transportation Department to remove the barrier.
MoDOT’s Kansas City District urged drivers to find an alternate route around the crash on their way into work. The closure caused westbound traffic to back up past Grain Valley, where traffic was being forced to exit. Many drivers were using eastbound U.S. 40 to get around the closure.
The highway patrol said it does not know how long the highway closure is expected to last.
