Pedestrian killed along northbound I-435 in Kansas City. Highway has reopened
A car struck and killed a pedestrian who was walking or standing in a lane of northbound Interstate 435 early Thursday in Kansas City, a police spokeswoman said.
The crash occurred about 1:15 a.m. along I-435 just south of Gregory Boulevard, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez with the Kansas City Police Department.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a black Ford Focus that was headed north on I-435 struck the pedestrian who was in the left lane, Gonzalez said. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Ford was taken to a hospital for treatment of their injuries and was said to be stable.
All lanes of northbound I-435 were closed to traffic at 87th Street for approximately three hours. The highway has since reopened, Gonzalez said.
The pedestrian’s death is the 42nd traffic fatality for the city this year. That compares to 49 traffic deaths at this time last year.
The investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing.
