Both directions of Interstate 435 have reopened after a semi-truck struck a downed power line, pulling multiple other lines onto the highway early Wednesday, Overland Park Police said.

Overland Park police posted an alert on social media shortly after 3:30 a.m. that the highway was closed at Roe Avenue in both directions due to the crash. Minor injuries were reported and the interstate was expected to remain closed for an extended period.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area and find an alternate route.

Shortly before 5:30 a.m., Evergy crews had cleared the westbound lanes, allowing that portion of the interstate to reopen, Overland Park police said.

The eastbound lanes reopened about 7 a.m., but Kansas City Scout traffic cameras showed that traffic was slow going through the area.
