Broken water mains repaired. Here’s what it means for evening commute in Johnson County
Repairs of multiple broken water mains along a busy thoroughfare in Johnson County have been completed, restoring water to more than 100 customers, a spokesperson for the water utility said Wednesday afternoon.
Crews plan to reopen the westbound lanes of 75th Street between Metcalf and Lamar avenues in time for the evening rush hour, said Kelly Fry, communications manager for Water District No. 1 of Johnson County, commonly called WaterOne. At least one lane of eastbound 75th Street is also tentatively scheduled to open.
Plans call to close all lanes again on Friday or Saturday, depending on Overland Park’s ability to repair the street.
Overland Park police alerted people to the breaks and the impact on traffic in a tweet on X, formerly known as Twitter, shortly before 4 a.m. Wednesday. Police followed up, saying that both directions of 75th Street between Metcalf Avenue and Lamar would be shut down so crews could make repairs.
Crews worked throughout the day making repairs to the multiple breaks, which Fry described as a “routine.”
The utility used NotifyJoCo to notify 103 customers of the breaks. Those customers were without water until mid-afternoon.
While crews are making repairs, eastbound and westbound 75th Street were closed from Metcalf to Lamar and at Walmer Street.
