A rider of a Bird electric scooter suffered serious injures in a crash after being trapped under a car and dragged at an intersection in the Kansas City midtown area, a police spokeswoman said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the scooter was headed east on East 43rd Street when the rider allegedly failed to stop at a red light at Main Street, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez with the Kansas City Police Department.

A blue Kia Rio was headed south on Main and entered the intersection on a green light. The driver of the Kia struck the scooter and its rider went under the car. The rider became trapped and was dragged several feet, Gonzalez said.

The scooter’s rider was taken to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
