Two motorcyclists killed in collision with pickup truck on U.S. 24 highway in Independence

A driver and passenger died when the motorcycle they were riding collided with a Dodge Ram pickup truck Wednesday evening in eastern Independence, a police spokesman said.

The motorcyclists were riding west on a Harley Davidson motorcycle about 5:40 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 24 highway when they crashed into the pickup, which was headed north on North Elsea Smith Road, said Sgt. Jeff Buck with the Independence Police Department.

The motorcycle driver and passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup remained at the scene, Buck said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Independence Police Department’s accident investigation unit
