Two girls who went missing from northwest Missouri found safe, sheriff says
Two girls who went missing from a small town in northwest Missouri were found safe Saturday, according to a news release from the Atchison County Sheriff’s Office.
The two girls were reported missing after they did not return from a high school football game in Rock Port, Missouri, the sheriff’s office said.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol issued an Amber Alert Friday, saying they were last seen around 8:40 p.m.
A task force of law enforcement agencies investigated their disappearance, leading to them being found in Evansville, Indiana around 10:20 a.m., the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
A suspect has been taken into custody in connection with their disapperance, the sheriff’s office said.
The highway patrol said in the amber alert that the two girls may have been in the company of a white man whose name is Alec or Alex. The man may be from California, the Amber Alert said.
No other information was immediately available about the possible suspect.
Rock Port is about a 1 hour and 40 minute drive northwest of Kansas City.
