Babysitter journaled his sexual assaults of young girl for years, MO cops say
A piano teacher accused of sexually assaulting a student is now charged with abusing a young girl he babysat, Missouri authorities say.
In June, 39-year-old Daniel Yavitz was charged with multiple counts of statutory sodomy of a person less than 12 years old, court records show.
At the time, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said the piano teacher engaged in oral sex acts with a student multiple times, KSDK reported.
“He also worked and advertised as a nanny. Mr. Yavitz did confess to this incident,” Prosecuting Attorney Melissa Price Smith said, according to KTVI. “Although we hope and pray that there are no additional victims, we know it is possible.”
Prosecutors have now uncovered evidence of an alleged second victim, who they say was sexually abused by Yavitz beginning when she was 3.
Yavitz babysat the girl from 2017 to 2025, according to court records filed Sept. 9. He said the girl was between 3 and 5 when he committed sex acts against her, according to prosecutors.
From 2022 to 2025, he kept journal entries of his alleged assaults and wrote of his “sexual affinity for young girls,” according to the probable cause statement.
Yavitz told investigators he knew “it is wrong and manipulative,” authorities said.
The court records show Yavitz now faces additional statutory sodomy charges.
Prosecutors said in June that Yavitz had work history in several school districts in the St. Louis area, KTVI reported. It’s unclear if there are additional victims.
“We encourage anyone out there who thinks their child may be a victim to contact law enforcement immediately,” Price Smith said in June, according to Spectrum News. “The first step in a victim regaining their power is to disclose and come forward.”
