Missing KC FEMA worker found safe after week-long search, police say
A Kansas City man who had been missing for a week was found safe Friday, police said.
Nate Hubert, a 32-year-old FEMA worker, was found safe in Shannon County, Missouri, according to the Cape Girardeau Police Department.
In a social media post, the police department said he was reportedly found drinking from a stream Friday afternoon and had not eaten in several days. He was receiving medical attention after he was found Friday.
Police said no foul play is suspected in his disappearance.
“We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped share the information and assisted in the search,” the police department said on Facebook. “Your support made a difference.”
Hubert’s father, Ed Hubert, said in a statement he looks forward to being reunited with his son Saturday.
“We’re very grateful for all the support and help we’ve experienced this week from friends, colleagues, law enforcement officers and total strangers,” Ed Hubert said in a text. “We’ll never be able to thank them enough.
“(We) especially want to thank the law enforcement officers, who keep our communities safe and sound every day,” Ed Hubert said. “Thanks for your hard work bringing Nate home to us.”
Hubert went missing June 21 after not showing up to work. Hubert works as data analyst for Federal Emergency Management Agency, and he was in Cape Girardeau helping with tornado and flood relief. His parents said he had been there since June 9.
After he went missing, friends and family traveled to Cape Girardeau to hang missing persons fliers and search for him. A friend of Hubert created the Facebook page ‘Find Nate Hubert’, where people shared ideas and information to help find him.
On Friday, Scott MacDonald, Hubert’s former college roommate and good friend, posted about him being found safe.
“With indescribable relief, we can share that Nate Hubert has been found alive and safe, and is being transported for medical attention,” MacDonald said in a post. “We want to thank each and every one of you for your concern, help, and prayers.”
Cape Girardeau is in the southeastern corner of Missouri, about five hours from Kansas City.
