Family ‘frustrated’ as police offer no updates on KC man missing in SE Missouri
The Cape Girardeau Police Department in southeast Missouri said Thursday it had no updates on the search for a 32-year-old Kansas City man who has been missing since Saturday.
Nate Hubert, who works for FEMA, was in Cape Girardeau helping with tornado and flood relief. He was reported missing when he didn’t show up for work.
His 2025 silver Nissan Versa rental car was last seen Friday night heading west near the intersection of Missouri highways 72 and 34, near Jackson, Missouri, according to police. Police said they have no new information to share.
“I continue checking with Detectives multiple time a day but have not received anything,” Officer Richard McCall, the public information officer with the Cape Girardeau Police Department, wrote in an email.
Hubert has been missing for five days, and friends and family are expressing frustration with the lack of new information. Hubert’s father, Ed Hubert, wrote in a text message that he and his wife Gayle Hubert “are, of course, very concerned and frustrated about the lack of information, but still hopeful for a positive outcome.”
Scott MacDonald, Hubert’s former college roommate and good friend, said the lack of information has “been agonizing.”
Meagan McKay, a good friend of Hubert’s and the creator of the ‘Find Nate Hubert’ Facebook page, wrote in a post, “we share in your frustration and concern and disappointment that more information is not available.”
Despite the lack of information, Ed Hubert said the Cape Girardeau Police Department is continuing to investigate and is looking into every tip that seems credible.
He also said a lot of Hubert’s friends from Kansas City and St. Louis have traveled to Cape Girardeau to search for Hubert in state parks and along the highways where his car was last spotted. He said local people are helping, too.
“We have appreciated the overwhelming outpouring of concern and offers of help from friends, colleagues, and total strangers,” Ed Hubert wrote in a text message. “We can’t possibly thank everyone individually, but we see them all, and they’ve sustained us through the past several difficult days.”
Hubert’s rental car has an Oklahoma license plate PZC389. He might be wearing a white baseball cap with a multi-colored front, according to police. Police said Hubert was last seen wearing a black shirt and black shorts.
He is 5 feet 11 inches and 175 pounds. Anyone with information should call the Cape Girardeau Police Department at 573-335-6621 or email rmccall@cityofcape.org.
Those with information can also text “CAPEPD” to 847411.
Police also said those who see something outside of Cape Girardeau should contact the agency in that jurisdiction first.
