11-year-old fights mom as she tries to suffocate his siblings, Missouri cops say
An 11-year-old boy locked himself in a hotel room bathroom and called 911 as his mother tried to suffocate his younger siblings, Missouri police said.
The mother was staying in a Jefferson City hotel room with her five children when she attempted to strangle and suffocate them with a pillowcase June 8, according to a probable cause statement.
Her 11-year-old son told police that she told the children “that if ‘one dies,’ they ‘all die,’” authorities said.
The boy witnessed his mother try to smother his sibling, who is under 3-months-old, with a pillowcase, police said. A child under age 8 also said they were smothered with a pillow, the probable cause statement said.
The oldest sibling fought his mother to keep her from killing his siblings, according to court documents. The mother also suffocated and strangled the 11-year-old, prosecutors said.
“His fear and trauma and having to fight his own mother over and over to save himself and his siblings is nothing short of horrific,” Prosecuting Attorney Wm. Locke Thompson said in court records.
McClatchy News is not naming the suspect to protect the identity of the children. Her attorney information was not listed.
The mom was found outside the hotel room and appeared to be intoxicated, police said. She was taken into custody.
Officers searched the hotel room and discovered several empty alcohol bottles and pillows on the floor. Two of those pillows did not have pillowcases, according to the probable cause statement.
The mother was charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, four counts of domestic assault and one count of abuse or neglect of a child.
She is held in jail without bond.
Jefferson City is about a 160-mile drive southeast from Kansas City.
