A man shot and killed a pregnant woman in front of five children when he got angry while staying in the Missouri home, police said.

Vanier Jones is accused of shooting the 35-year-old woman, causing the death of her unborn child, and wounding another 42-year-old woman in a St. Louis home on April 23, Missouri police said in a probable cause statement filed on May 2.

The 28-year-old man was charged with two counts of first degree murder, assault, unlawful possession of a firearm and five counts of endangering the welfare of a child, according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

Jones’ attorney information was not listed.

The 42-year-old woman told police she pretended to be dead after she was shot first, according to the probable cause. She then heard Jones ask the children where their mother was, according to police.

The children were between ages 2- and 10-years-old, according to police. Some were the children of the woman killed.

Jones then shot the mother in the back of the head multiple times, according to police.

The pregnant woman, who had been in her second trimester, was found unconscious and not breathing when police arrived at the home, the probable cause said. She was pronounced dead at the scene while the wounded woman was taken to the hospital.

Jones is held in jail without bond.
