A lottery player at a Jackson County grocery store was content with winning part of a scratch ticket prize, but later found out she won even more.

The player said to Missouri Lottery that she thought she only won $5,000. But after a friend told her she had to keep scratching, she kept revealing more winning symbols. She ended up winning a total of $100,000.

“So, I scratched another one and won. Then another one,” she shared. “My best friend was like, ‘I think you might have won the whole thing.’”

Her spontaneous purchase of a “Double-Sided Dollars” Scratchers ticket at an Independence HyVee, 1525 E. 23rd St., landed her one of the game’s top prizes. She plays the Missouri Lottery games every once in a while and just randomly selected the ticket, she said.

“I couldn’t tell if I had died,” she said. “It was out of reality.”

As of Tuesday, Feb. 11, players have won more than $9.6 million in prizes in the “Double-Sided Dollars” game, according to Missouri Lottery. More than $9.4 million in prizes have yet to be claimed — including three additional $100,000 prizes.
