22-year-old ‘kidnapped’ from Aldi parking lot made it up, Missouri police say

A Missouri woman is accused of lying to police about being kidnapped from a grocery store parking lot on Sunday, officials say.

A 22-year-old woman told police that she was followed out of an Aldi’s store in Neosho to her car, police said in a Wednesday news release posted on Facebook. She told police she was grabbed after loading her groceries into her car, officials say.

The woman told police she spent roughly an hour-and-a-half with her kidnappers before they ultimately returned her to her car unharmed, according to Neosho police

Police said they launched an investigation and reviewed surveillance video from the grocery store, but weren’t able to confirm her story with the footage.

When detectives confronted the woman, she told police that she had made the story up, officials say.

Police took the woman into custody and are asking the Newton County Prosecutor’s office to charge her with making a false report, according to officials.

The woman’s name has not been released.

Neosho is located about 20 miles southeast of Joplin.
