Sheriff’s deputy shoots, kills Missouri woman during traffic stop
Update: A Missouri Highway Patrol spokesman said on Sunday it was unclear if the woman had a gun when she was shot. That story is posted here.
A Pettis County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a Sedalia woman overnight, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.
The shooting happened during a traffic stop after the deputy pulled the woman over about 10 p.m. Saturday near U.S. 50 and Winchester Drive in Sedalia, the highway patrol said in a statement Sunday morning on Twitter.
At the traffic stop, the woman “refused to identify herself, stated she was armed & verbally threatened to shoot the deputy,” highway patrol tweeted.
The deputy shot the woman, officials said. She died a short time later. The deputy was not injured.
The patrol is investigating the shooting at the request of the Pettis County Sheriff.
The highway patrol is also investigating a fatal shooting from the day prior in Kansas City after a police officer shot and killed a carjacking suspect Saturday afternoon at 23rd Street and Lister Avenue. Police said the man was armed.
