Mysterious sheep beheading of a young pregnant ewe baffles Missouri sheriff’s office

Someone beheaded a pregnant sheep and left her headless body in a southwest Missouri field, police say.

Another sheep was shot point-blank in the same field, police say.

On Jan. 14, a young pregnant ewe was shot, killed and beheaded in the owner’s field north of Powell, according to the McDonald County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect took her head but left the body, police said.

On Monday, another sheep in the same field was found “shot in the head at close range,” police said. This time, the sheep’s entire body, including its head, was left in the field, police said.

“We appreciate any help we can get to ensure the person(s) responsible answer for the acts they have done,” the Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook.

McDonald County is a rural community in the far southwestern corner of Missouri.
