Train collision leaves one person dead in Lawrence, police say

One person is dead after they were hit by a train in Lawrence Thursday evening, police said.
The Lawrence Police Department notified the public on social media just after 7:30 p.m. that the 1300 Block of 11th Street east of Haskell Avenue was blocked off after a reported train collision.
Police urged the public to avoid the area as investigators secured the scene and worked to determine what led up to the crash.
A spokesperson for the Lawrence Police Department said preliminary evidence points to the death being a suicide.
Police have not publicly identified the victim and no information has yet been released on what happened leading up to the collision.
The road has since reopened to the public, police said on social media.
