How much do you need to make in Kansas to bring home $100,000? What one study says
Let’s say you get offered a job that pays $100,000 a year. That seems like a lot of money, but due to taxes, your take-home pay will be quite a bit less in the United States.
Income taxes vary in Kansas from person to person. Kansas has two income tax rates: 5.2% and 5.58%. People making $23,000 or less are taxed the lower rate while people making more are taxed the higher rate. Additionally, Kansas seniors are not taxed on Social Security benefits.
So, how much would you have to make in Kansas in order to bring home six figures?
GoBankingRates found the salary needed in each U.S. state by analyzing federal, state and local taxes, as well as FICA withholdings in every state. In Kansas, GoBankingRates reports that one person would have to bring home $148,400 a year in order to see six figures in their bank account every year.
How does Kansas compare to other states?
The eight states where you’d make the least amount of money to bring home $100,000 are: Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming, all of which don’t have state income taxes.
People in those states need to make about $137,000 a year to bring home six figures, GoBankingRates says.
Looking at Kansas’ neighboring states, only Nebraska requires more than Kansas to reach with $100,000 with $149,700. Oklahoma needs $146,700, Colorado needs $146,460 and Missouri needs $147,030.
Meanwhile, Oregon takes the crown for the state with the highest needed salary to bring home six figures. GoBankingRates reports that a worker there would have to make about $156,000.

- Maine: $151,640
