Kansas Highway Patrol releases names of 4 children killed in crash on Thanksgiving
The names of four young boys killed in a north-central Kansas crash on Thanksgiving have been released by the highway patrol.
Twelve-year-old Ronald T.S. Hyde, 9-year-old Travis E. Hyde, 4-year-old Aidan M.L. Lovelace and a 9-month-old baby, Axton H. Beck — all from New Mexico — died after a vehicle they were riding in drove off the road and into a pond, the Kansas Highway Patrol’s online crash log stated on Tuesday.
The incident happened about 10:40 am. Nov. 28 on 30 Road, north of U.S. 36, in Republic County.
According to the highway patrol, the family’s 1994 Toyota vehicle was traveling north on 30 Road when it lost control and left the road. The vehicle then rolled into a pond, coming to a rest on its top.
The children’s mother, identified as 38-year-old Jennifer Dawn Lovelace of Tularosa, New Mexico, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Lovelace was listed as the driver of the vehicle.
A male passenger, Paul E. Bannister, also 38, of Alamogordo, New Mexico, was taken to a hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries.
The four children were pronounced dead at the scene.
The highway patrol has been leading the investigation. No further information was released Tuesday.
An online fundraiser that was set up to help cover funeral costs has raised more than $31,000 in six days.
