Four children killed when car drives into pond in northern Kansas on Thanksgiving Day
Four children under the age of 8 were killed when a car drove into a pond in north-central Kansas on Thanksgiving day, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The patrol responded to the scene about 11:30 a.m. after Republic County emergency dispatchers requested assistance, according to a tweet from Troop C spokesman Trooper Ben Gardner. The crash occurred near U.S. 36 highway and 30 Road, about 70 miles north of Salina.
A man was interviewed by police about the incident and the children’s mother was taken to a hospital.
Gardner said investigators do not believe the occupants of the car are Kansas residents. The site of the wreck was just south of the Nebraska state line.
The names of the children and the relationship of the man to the family were not immediately available.
The crash remains under investigation.
