Voters in Johnson County and across the metro weighed in on races Tuesday for city council, mayoral and school board seats in local communities.

These municipal races determine the government officials who often have the most impact on local residents’ lives. They decide how your tax dollars are spent, what infrastructure is improved and how your children are educated.

Below are the results as reported by the Johnson County Election Board for area mayors, city council seats and representation on the county water boards. The Star is only presenting results in competitive races. The results are displayed alphabetically by community.

Two newcomers are joining the Olathe City Council, winning upset bids over a longtime incumbent and a former Johnson County lawmaker. Meet the election winners.

Overland Park opted to stick with their current mayor, Curt Skoog, and long-serving council members in the election.

Prairie Village opted against a ballot measure that would have overhauled its current system of government. The group that backed the issue, PV United, saw the city council candidates it backed also trail in votes.

Shawnee voters seemed to signal a preference for a more moderate government, choosing middle-of-the-road candidates over more conservative incumbents.

On the ballot, Spring Hill’s only mayoral candidate is listed as Kristin Feeback, who was elected to the City Council in 2023. However, she announced in July that she accepted a new job that will require her to move away from Spring Hill, making her ineligible to serve as mayor.

As a result, the race for mayor became a write-in campaign. Write-in candidate ballots are tallied separately than candidates on the official ballot and as a result, we do not yet know the winner.
