‘Cuddle bug’ cat was returned to shelter and is ‘heartbroken to be left behind’
Pets can be crestfallen if they go from a happy, warm home to a chaotic shelter — especially if they’ve been in that environment before.
That was the situation for this adorable cat in Indiana.
“Meet Skye: a sweet girl looking for her forever home,” the Humane Society for Hamilton County in Fishers said in an Oct. 18 Facebook post. “A cuddle bug in training.”
Unfortunately, the cuddle bug went through a rough patch when she was returned to her original stomping grounds.
“Originally adopted from HSHC as a kitten, Skye faced some tough times when she was returned after 2 years in a loving home,” the shelter said. “Overwhelmed by the shelter environment and heartbroken to be left behind, Skye is now finding comfort and love in her foster home.”
Usually when a pet is terrified of kennel life, a shelter moves quickly to find a loving foster to provide comfort, which is what happened with this little one.
“Skye is a total sweetheart who has started to come out of her shell with the help of her foster family,” the shelter said. “They describe her as a happy, affectionate girl who loves attention. Whether it’s getting her ears scratched or running up for some attention when someone new enters the room, Skye is ready to show her love.”
Not only has Skye attached herself to a human in the household (the daughter of the foster mom, the shelter notes), she’s learned a new trick.
“They even have a fun routine where Skye learns to sit on her hind legs like a little groundhog (she’s even doing it without treats!)” the shelter said. “With some time, patience, and continued socialization, Skye has blossomed into a wonderful house cat, and now, she’s ready to find her perfect forever home where she can continue to grow and thrive.”
