A man fleeing police in Fairfield is accused of hiding a firearm on top of an infant in a nearby baby carriage, California officers reported.

Officers responded to reports of a disturbance and a man with a firearm at an apartment complex just after 2 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, Fairfield police said in a news release.

The man reportedly “brandished a firearm at several people,” police said.

Officers arriving at the complex spotted a man run to an apartment building and enter a stairwell, police said.

Inside the stairwell, they found Cristian Rodgriguez, 28, standing in front of a woman with a baby carriage, police said.

Rodgriguez surrendered and officers found an unloaded handgun on top of a baby inside the carriage, police said. They found a loaded magazine in Rodriguez’s pocket.

He faces charges including making criminal threats, carrying a concealed weapon and child endangerment, police said.

Fairfield is about a 50-mile drive northeast from San Francisco.
