A man accused of raping and kidnapping two women in separate incidents has been convicted, Oregon prosecutors say.

A jury found Julio Cesar Escamilla-Ramos, 31, of Gresham, guilty of multiple counts, including first-degree rape and kidnapping in connection with the 2023 cases, the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office said in an Aug. 27 news release.

An attorney for Escamilla-Ramos did not immediately respond to McClatchy News’ request for comment Aug. 29.

As a 38-year-old woman walked home from a Molalla event in August 2023, “Escamilla-Ramos offered her a ride,” prosecutors said.

Once the woman was in his car, however, he drove opposite of where she intended to go and refused to let her leave the car, prosecutors said.

Escamilla-Ramos drove to a remote area, where he raped the woman, then left her, prosecutors said.

In a separate incident, Escamilla-Ramos bought a 22-year-old woman he had dated $300 worth of clothing for her to wear to a party the two attended together, prosecutors said.

After the party, prosecutors said Escamilla-Ramos drove the woman home while demanding “she have sex with him in return for the clothing.”

The woman refused, and Escamilla-Ramos “raped and sexually abused her,” prosecutors said.

In response to the woman’s screams for help, Escamilla-Ramos drove away with her, prosecutors said.

The woman tried to leave the car, but Escamilla-Ramos grabbed her, telling her, “You’re not going anywhere,” according to investigators, prosecutors said.

“Eventually, the woman opened the door, escaped and ran,” prosecutors said.

As the woman made her way home, Escamilla-Ramos followed, according to prosecutors.

After calling 911, the woman’s family held “Escamilla-Ramos until the police arrived and arrested him,” prosecutors said.

In addition to rape and kidnapping, prosecutors said Escamilla-Ramos was also convicted of sexual abuse and sodomy.

Escamilla-Ramos is scheduled to appear in court for sentencing Sept. 29, prosecutors said.

Gresham is about a 15-mile drive east from Portland.
