Man raped multiple women over 8-year span, CA officials say. He’s convicted
A man accused of raping multiple women over the span of eight years has been convicted, California prosecutors said.
A jury convicted Dustin Ronald Alba, 30, “of nine felony counts of forcible sex acts, including rape, sodomy, and attempted forcible rape, on five separate victims,” the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office said in a June 11 news release.
Alba was also convicted of “several special allegations and aggravating factors,” including that there were “multiple victims, the victim was vulnerable, and Alba took advantage of a position of trust,” prosecutors said.
McClatchy News was unable to immediately reach an attorney representing Alba on June 12.
Alba pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in October 2020, court records show.
“While justice for these victims was delayed, their verdict means that it was not denied,” Deputy District Attorney Rosa Romero said in the release. “I sincerely hope that this decision offers the victims a sense of closure as they move forward in their healing process.”
Alba is accused of sexually abusing women across Ventura and Los Angeles counties, including Thousand Oaks, Oxnard and Los Angeles, between 2012 and 2020, prosecutors said.
The women told investigators they “met Alba through dating apps or social media,” according to prosecutors.
The women went on to say they dated or exchanged messages with him, then he forced them into sex acts, “despite repeated pleas for him to stop,” prosecutors said.
After meeting a woman through a dating app, Alba met her in person in August 2020, prosecutors said.
Before they met, the woman told Alba “she was not looking to ‘hook up,’” according to prosecutors.
The two spent the day together and ended up at Alba’s home in Oxnard, prosecutors said.
“Alba ripped her clothing, pulled her onto the bed” and raped her, according to prosecutors.
The woman was too terrified to deny his demands, prosecutors said.
Once she was free, the woman reported the incident to police, prosecutors said.
During an investigation, Ventura County Sheriff’s Office detectives searched Alba’s cellphone and found text message exchanges with other women who accused Alba of sexual assault and rape, prosecutors said.
Follow-up investigation led detectives to four more victims, one of whom was a minor at the time of the alleged sexual abuse, prosecutors said.
Alba, who is being held without bail, is scheduled to appear in court for sentencing July 9 and faces 111 years to life in prison, prosecutors said.
Oxnard is about a 60-mile drive northwest from Los Angeles.
