The body of a 15-year-old missing after he jumped from a quarry ledge was found in about 25 feet of water, Maine officials said.

On July 2, officers responded to a call about a teen who didn’t resurface while swimming with three friends at the Hallowell Quarry, according to a news release by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

The Farmington boy had jumped from a ledge into the quarry but landed “awkwardly” before struggling to swim and then eventually not resurfacing, officials said.

Firefighters and police were unable to recover his body with drones and boats, but a diver found the boy’s body in 25 feet of water, officials said.

The state medical examiner will determine his cause of death.
