Man inappropriately touches girls in lazy river at rec center, Utah cops say
A man was arrested after being accused of touching young girls inappropriately in a public pool, Utah officials said.
On June 9, Provo officers were called to the Provo Rec Center after getting reports of girls that were touched by a man, later identified as Alfonso Lopez Gutierrez, police told FOX 13.
Officers spoke to the two victims, ages 10 and 13, and were told while in the lazy river, Gutierrez, 32, touched one of them on the thigh and another on the leg before sliding his hand toward her buttocks, police told Gephardt Daily.
One of the victims told her mom that while she was in the pool, Gutierrez followed her and “cornered her” but “she was able to swim away before he could touch her,” police told KUTV.
At first, Gutierrez denied being at the pool before the day of the crime but then later admitted to having been to the pool on different occasions, according to the charging documents obtained by ABC 4.
He was arrested on suspicion of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, officers told Gephardt Daily.
Provo is about a 40-mile drive southeast from Salt Lake City.
