A man has been convicted after being accused of sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl, New Mexico officials said.

In 2019, a girl was sexually abused by a family friend, later identified as Aaron Gordon, according to a May 7 Facebook post by the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office.

The girl’s best friend witnessed the abuse and told the girl’s mom, officials said.

When the mother confronted Gordon, he told her “You should have been watching her” and made comments about how the girl was dressed, officials said.

He is facing up to 12 years in prison, officials said.

Officials didn’t specify when Gordon will reappear in court for his sentencing.

Bernalillo County is home to Albuquerque, New Mexico.
