A student is accused of threatening to shoot a teacher in what a Texas school district has called a “horrible prank.”

The Como-Pickton Consolidated Independent School District said the student at an unidentified school called one of their teachers Friday, May 2, while “using a spoof number.”

Spoofing is when a caller “deliberately falsifies the information transmitted to” a caller ID in an attempt to “disguise their identity,” according to the Federal Communications Commission.

The student, who remained anonymous, threatened to shoot the teacher if their grade wasn’t changed, the school district said in its May 3 post on Facebook.

There is not believed to be any danger toward the teacher, but the district said law enforcement presence would be doubled at the school “to set minds at ease.”

“While we believe it to be a terrible prank by some student, we wanted to be transparent with you, the parents as well,” according to the district. “As you might understand, we will not tolerate pranks of this nature or any joking threats towards staff or other students.”

In an update May 4, the district said the student was identified and arrested by the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department. Charges were not announced.

Hopkins County is about a 90-mile drive northeast from Dallas.
