Climber falls to his death while scaling canyon with family, friends, Colorado cops say
A hiker fell to his death while scaling a canyon with his family and friends in Colorado, officials said.
The Boulder County Regional Communication Center received a 911 text about the injured fallen climber around 3:15 p.m. March 23, county officials said in a news release.
Then more texts came in saying the climber was unresponsive and the group had started CPR, officials said.
The man, a 41-year-old from Golden, Colorado, was climbing near Boulder Canyon Drive with his family and friends when they found him “unresponsive after what appeared to be a fall from 20 feet,” officials said. He died from his injuries.
First responders arrived and brought his body down from the climbing area to the road, officials said.
The Boulder County Coroner’s Office will identify the climber and notify his next of kin, officials said.
Boulder Canyon is a popular destination for local climbers, according to Colorado Mountain School’s website. It’s about a 40-mile drive northwest from Denver.
