‘Screams’ echoing through Colorado trail lead to hiker who fell off cliff. See rescue
A passerby heard “screams” echoing through a Colorado mountain trail and discovered a hiker who had fallen off a cliff, officials said.
The passerby heard the hiker’s screams and immediately called state wildlife officials for help, the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook on Jan. 31.
Photos show the snowy, rocky cliff where rescuers found the hiker. They packaged her in a stretcher and carried her to a rescue helicopter, where she was flown to a Colorado Springs hospital with serious injuries, officials said.
“Great teamwork by all involved in this treacherous rescue,” officials said.
A person who said the hiker is her daughter commented on the post, thanking the rescuers.
“You guys provided exceptional care and I am grateful! Thank you for making her feel safe and even holding her hand when she asked,” the post said. “She has a really long road ahead of her — because of each of you we get to travel it together!”
Others commented encouraging hikers and climbers to be careful on the route, especially when hiking alone.
“I can see how this would be fun to scale, but hikers and climbers, please be careful,” someone said under a photo of the cliff.
Others said she was extremely lucky another person was out there and heard her screams for help.
Pueblo County is about a 50-mile drive south from Colorado Springs.
