A Texas man found guilty of killing his daughter’s boyfriend has been sentenced to life in prison, officials say and news outlets report.

Larry Gene Hernandez, 45, of San Antonio, was accused of fatally shooting Ron Quadri on Aug. 13, 2023, after Quadri confronted him about a break-in at his apartment, WOAI reported.

Court records show Hernandez was found guilty on March 14, and sentenced on Monday, March 17.

McClatchy News reached out to Hernandez’ attorney for comment but didn’t immediately hear back.

Investigators said Hernandez gunned Quadri down, loaded his body into Quadri’s car, then abandoned the vehicle in a parking lot on San Antonio’s south side before checking into a nearby hotel, KABB reported. Quadri’s body was found about two days later after police received an anonymous tip.

Shortly before his disappearance, Quadri reported to police that his girlfriend and her father, Hernandez, burglarized his home and were “responsible for stealing (Quadri’s) dog and $10,000,” the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.

In court, Hernandez said his daughter had broken up with Quadri and he went to his apartment to help collect her things — including her dog, which she refused to leave behind, the San Antonio Express-News reported. He kicked open the door, got the dog and left, he said, adding that the only things he took from the apartment belonged to his daughter.

District Attorney Joe Gonzales said the life term handed down Monday was a fitting sentence.

“The vicious act of taking a life, especially one that shatters a family’s world, cannot be justified,” Gonzales said. “Justice has been served today, not only for Mr. Quadri and his family but for the community that deserves to feel safe.”
