Police in Ohio are investigating after a 7-year-old boy fell out of a moving SUV and died.

Zondeair Robertson was riding in a 2020 Ford Explorer in Columbus at about 3 p.m. Sunday, March 16, when the incident occurred, according to a police report.

While the vehicle was making a right-hand turn, the passenger door came open and Zondeair fell out of the SUV, which then ran over him, police said.

“This isn’t victim blaming, but it’s important to know that when you are traveling with young children, to always make sure that they’re secured in a seat belt or a car seat or some type of restraint, as well as if you have the opportunity to have child safety locks on your back doors to activate them when possible,” Columbus Police Sgt. James Fuqua told WCMH.

Zondeair was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the police report.

Police are still investigating the incident.
