Argument over $40 leaves man stabbed to death in North Dakota, feds say. ‘Senseless’
A North Dakota man was sentenced to prison after officials said he stabbed a man to death over $40.
Austin Cody Littlewind, 22, was sentenced to 16 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder, according to a Feb. 6 news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of North Dakota.
McClatchy News reached out to Littlewind’s attorney for comment but did not immediately hear back.
Littlewind got into an argument with a man over money in Fort Totten on Nov. 19, 2023, according to court records.
Littlewind stabbed the man in the arm and chest, killing him, the documents said.
“Senseless acts of violence have no place in our communities,” Special Agent in Charge Alvin M. Winston Sr. of FBI Minneapolis said.
U.S. Attorney Mac Schneider said the fatal stabbing was “extremely violent and totally pointless.”
Littlewind was also ordered to pay restitution for funeral and related expenses.
Fort Totten is within the Spirit Lake Reservation, about a 100-mile drive west of Grand Forks.
